KENOSHA, Wis. – After a rough first two sets, the MSOE men's volleyball team had their chances of upsetting #12 Carthage College, but ultimately fell short in four sets.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
#12 Carthage - 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (3-3, 0-0 NACC) couldn't find a way to not beat themselves to open the match having a negative hitting percentage for the first set. Carthage (7-5, 0-0 CCIW) started the first set having the slight edge but exploded away in the back-half for a 25-15 win. The Firebirds carried the momentum into set two opening with a 5-1 run, eventually taking a 20-12 lead. Déjà vu set in as the Firebirds repeated the same set victory in set two, 25-15.
- The Raiders offense started to click in set three as they hit .235 overall and had the edge over the Firebirds. A kill from James Zippay started off the third set with a kill as Ian Glashagel eventually started streaking for a 12-7 lead. The Firebirds found a rhythm with hopes of taking the sweep with a 14-12 lead, but the Raiders cruised away with Antonio Llona Baez setting up Zippay with a kill to force set four.
- The Firebirds entered the fourth set with short runs, only to be matched by the Raiders each time. Past the midway point of the set, the Firebirds extended a run for a 23-17 lead, but a kill from Callan Harris swung the momentum over to their end and took them to go down just one. Unfortunately, the Firebirds needing just two more points found their way to take it 25-23.
