GENEVA, Ill. – The MSOE men's hockey team traveled down to Aurora to kick off the Harris Cup Playoffs for an afternoon puck-drop. The Raiders put the pressure on early outshooting the Spartans but ultimately fell short in overtime.
FINAL SCORE
No. 5 MSOE RAIDERS – 1
No. 4 Aurora - 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither side found the edge on the scoreboard throughout the first period, but MSOE (14-10-2, 8-9-1 NCHA) led 10-6 shots on goal. Things began to heat up as the Raiders struck first as Gramm McCormack and Cole Beilke found the hot stick Seth Bernard for the 1-0 lead.
- Just minutes later however, Aurora (14-11-1, 12-6-0 NCHA) flipped things around on their offensive end for their first goal of the game to knot up the game at one, which held through the end of the second period.
- The defense on both sides really shinned in the third period as it seemed like no shots taken came close to being on goal. After the twenty minutes played, the Spartans only had six shots on goal which still was more than the Raiders who only got two off themselves. Heading into the overtime period, just a 1:08 in was all the Spartans needed to seal it 2-1.
