HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two sides proved in set one that this was going to be a battle all night. Marian (10-3, 2-1 NACC) had the largest lead of the set 10-6 early before MSOE (5-7, 1-2 NACC) stormed back quickly with the help of Seth Thomas and Carter Shavitz. The Sabres were the first ones to set point 24-22 but the Raiders closed a 5-1 run to take it 27-25. The Sabres quickly flipped a switch in the second set to come away with ease 25-16 to tie things up at one.
- The Sabres created multiple miscues to begin the third set to allow the Raiders to jump out to a 11-4 lead to begin. Their lead slowly began to shorten when at set point, the Sabres catapulted themselves into the lead as they began to trade point past the 25-point mark with the Sabres pulling it out 29-27.
- Antonio Llona Baez gave the spark the Raiders needed in the fourth set to come back, providing two kills in a run that proved to be the difference in the long run as they tied the match up winning 25-20. After each side traded points to begin set five, the Raiders committed four straight errors to put themselves in a hole as the Sabres then cruised 15-12 to finish off their chance of a comeback.
