MILWAUKEE –
Carson Jones highlighted a game that seemed to have a different feel in each period as the MSOE men's hockey team fend off Concordia University Wisconsin in their home finale this season.
FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 6
Concordia Wisconsin - 5
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite the final score, the game lacked action in the first period as MSOE (13-9-2, 5-9-1) only outshot Concordia Wisconsin (8-16-0, 5-10-0 NCHA) 7-6. After a scoreless period and nearly halfway through the second, the sparks began to fly as Jacob Bosse converted on the powerplay from Jackson Hughes for the first goal of the game.
- With the Falcons hoping to generate the same result on a powerplay of their own just seconds later, Jones broke free for his first of the night to quickly give the Raiders a 2-0 lead. The Falcons were able to get on the board to cut into the deficit, but Gramm McCormack and Kevin Paganini put goals back-to-back to put the Raiders ahead comfortably 4-1 after the second.
- The Falcons midway through the third wanted to find a spark, especially after allowing an empty netter from Jones from near the opposite blueline. The Falcons essentially played at least a man up for a majority the final ten minutes and proved to be effective. An empty net goal from Brennan Dickey with under four minutes left ended up being a saving grace for the Raiders and the Falcons nearly completed the comeback but ended up just short.
