Raiders Comeback Falls Short in Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The MSOE men's lacrosse team fell to the Spartans of the University of Dubuque on Wednesday, as a strong fourth quarter from Dubuque stymied any hope of an MSOE comeback in a 14-8 Raiders loss.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 8
Dubuque Spartans - 14

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders (3-3, 0-0 NACC) trailed the Spartans (3-3) early, as Dubuque scored six unanswered goals in the first quarter, shutting out the Raiders in the first frame.  MSOE would score to end the drought at the 13:09 mark of the second quarter, on an unassisted Soren Savard snipe, bringing the score to 6-1 in favor of the Spartans.  Dawson Smith would convert a man-up opportunity before the half, as the Raiders were outshot 22-13 in the first half, while also sitting at a -2 in the turnover differential.
  • The Raiders would mount a comeback in a high scoring third quarter, as reigning NACC Offensive Student Athlete of the Week Smith bookended a Spartan goal with two more of his own.  Savard tallied his second of the game ,before Graden Jansen and Case Roberts found the back of the net shrinking the Spartans lead, and putting the Raiders within reach at 9-7.  Savard ripped one more goal in the final minutes of the third quarter, bringing the Raiders within striking distance at 9-7, but ultimately the Spartans would stand tall in the fourth quarter.  Dubuque tallied five more unanswered goals in the final frame as MSOE fell 14-8 in hard-fought loss.
