LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The MSOE women's soccer team faced off against their final non-conference opponent of the season, Lake Forest College, on Monday, as the Raiders fell 2-1 in their last matchup before tackling the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
Lake Forest Foresters – 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both the Raiders (4-3-0) and Foresters (3-2-1) were held scoreless in the first half, as MSOE outshot Lake Forest seven-to-four in the first 45 minutes. Page Sanchez would make a key diving save at the 34:39 mark to keep the Foresters off board, as both Elizabeth Kuhn and Samantha Shaver nearly missed on goal-scoring opportunities for the Red and White.
- It would take the Raiders only 46 seconds to find the back of the net in the second half, as Maggie Thillman buried a goal off a slick feed from Grace Quinn, putting MSOE ahead 1-0. The Raiders would surrender a penalty shot opportunity for the Foresters just minutes later, as Lake Forest would convert and knot the game up at 1-1.
- Addison Spilman nearly found the back of the net with 20 minutes left to play but was stifled on a diving save from the Lake Forest goalkeeper, as the Raiders began to up the intensity on the offensive end. The Foresters, however, would be the ones to capitalize as they scored the go-ahead goal with less than 17 minutes left to play. Trailing 2-1, MSOE would get one final chance on a near-header from Jackie Keane, but the Lake Forest defense was too much for the Raiders to overcome as the clock struck 0:00.
