DUBUQUE, Iowa – Back into conference play, the MSOE men's hockey team converted on two power plays to take a 2-1 lead but could only come away with a shootout victory over University of Dubuque on the road.
FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 2
University of Dubuque - 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both offenses hit the gates running with MSOE (7-7-2, 2-6-1 NCHA) leading the shot total 15-12 in the opening period. Late in the period, Dubuque (0-13-3, 0-7-2 NCHA) used the home energy to their advantage as they struck first to have the advantage at the first break.
- Midway through the second period, tempers flared on both sides as the Raiders had a four on three opportunity to even the scoring. Picking up the puck on the defensive end, Carson Jones went coast-to-coast down the left side to sink it in the corner to knot things up. The Raiders had another advantage later in the period and converted yet again as Eddie Shepler picked things up right where they were last game, redirecting a shot from Gramm McCormack to take a 2-1 lead heading into the third.
- Both defenses stepped up in the final period, each allowing only six shots from the other. Midway through when the Raiders hoped to lock in completely to secure things, the Spartans took immediate advantage of a power-play opportunity to tie things up, which held as the clock hit zeros. After the overtime period hit zeros as well, the two went to a shootout period, Shepler ended things in the fifth round.
