LISLE, Ill. – The MSOE women's basketball team took on the Benedictine University Eagles on Saturday afternoon, as a double-double from
Dani Mendez was not enough to get the Red and White a victory.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 44
Benedictine Eagles - 56
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders (9-8, 5-3 NACC) and Eagles (9-8, 5-3 NACC) went basket-for-basket to open the game, with MSOE getting the early edge on a layup from Halena Hill followed up by a jumper from Ella Mensen to give MSOE a 13-9 lead. The Eagles would answer as the first quarter came to a close, hitting a buzzer-beating layup to tie the game at 13-13
- Dani Mendez broke the tie with a couple of free throws to open the second quarter, adding four more points in the paint before the midway mark of the quarter as the Raiders built a six-point lead, 23-17. The Eagles would catch fire from three-point range as the first half came to a close, hitting three straight from deep to take their first lead of the game at 26-25 heading into the halftime break.
- The Eagles would hold the lead through the majority of the third quarter, as the Red and White tried to string together stops on the defensive end. After slowing the Eagles offense down, Mahima Chokshi hit a jumper to bring the Raiders within a possession, followed up by a layup from Mendez to knot the game up with the teams knotted up at 37-37 with one quarter to play.
- The Raiders would unfortunately go ice cold in the fourth quarter, shooting just 11.7% in the final ten minutes of play. The Eagles would take advantage as they built a double-digit lead by the midway point of the fourth, as the Raiders were unable to mount a comeback as they fell 56-44.
