Women's Soccer Posts Six First Half Goals in Dominant Showing

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The MSOE women's soccer team made their way to Lakeland University on Wednesday night for a matchup against the Muskies as the regular season begins to wind down.  The Raiders would prove to be in a league above the Muskies, posting a 7-0 shutout win against their conference foe.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 7
Lakeland University Muskies – 0

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (10-4-2, 8-0-1 NACC) wasted little time getting ahead of Lakeland (1-11-1, 1-8-0 NAAC) as Hadleigh Ostrenga saw her shot stopped by the Muskies goalkeeper, only for Faith Papazoglou to follow up and bury the ball in the back of the net just 4:09 into the game.  Elizabeth Kuhn would add another goal, unassisted, a mere five minutes later as the Raiders began to widen the gap against Lakeland.  Rosario Etcheverria Abuin would add two goals of her own just 62 seconds apart, courtesy of assists from Natalie Braun and Maddox Trent as the contest began to turn into a one-sided affair in favor of MSOE.
  • The Raiders kept adding goals as the first half began to wind down, with Trent scoring a goal of her own at the 37:37 mark.  Etcheverria Abuin would notch a hat trick 60 seconds later, scoring her third goal of the game on an unassisted effort as the Red and White went to the halftime break with a 6-0 lead.  The Muskies would add an own goal to the Raiders total coming down the stretch of the second half, as the combined efforts of Page Sanchez, Teya Baxter, Ayla Zuzek and Carla Sastre kept the Muskies off the board in a 7-0 win.  The Raiders defense would help their goaltenders out by not allowing a single shot from the Lakeland offense, as the Red and White record their tenth win of the season, with three games left to play.
