Men's Basketball Erase First-Half Deficit in Overtime Win at Sabres

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The MSOE men's basketball team erased a 12-point first-half deficit Wednesday evening as they defeated Marian University in overtime for their fourth straight victory. The Raiders, who competed in their first overtime game all season, saw Mason Dopirak and Donovan Carter combine for 51 of their 84 points in their penultimate game of the regular season.

FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 84

Marian - 75

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After four points from Dopirak to begin, Marian (16-8, 9-8 NACC) went on a run to have an 11-point lead with under 12 minutes to play in the first half. After it grew slightly up to 12, MSOE (17-7, 13-4 NACC) back-to-back three-pointers from Carter and Dopirak cut the deficit down to four with under six. A pair of layups from Joey Jendusa and Ethan Johnson brought it down to one before the Sabres brought it up to four at the first-half break.
  • Back-to-back and-one conversions out of the break from Carter and Carson Cordelli brought the score to dead even at 42 before Dopirak gave the Raiders their first lead since early in the first half. The Sabres tied up the ball game at 50 with 13:34 remaining as the things began to seesaw back and forth. The Raider lead grew as large as five after a tip-in from Carter with 4:46 remaining, but on the Sabres final possession, they tied it up at 73 with 41 seconds remaining. The Raiders held things for the final possession and had the final shot, but it rimmed out and sent the game to overtime.
  • Anay Amoah and Carter knocked in two buckets to start overtime, which were the only field goals the Raiders attempted. The Raiders outscored the Sabres in the extra five minutes 11-2, converting the final seven points on free throws to seal the game.
