Raiders Conquer No. 3 CUW, Advance to NACC Tournament Semifinals

MEQUON, Wis. – The No. 6 seed MSOE women's basketball team squared off against the No. 3 seed Falcons of Concordia Wisconsin in the NACC Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday night, as junior guard Mahima Chokshi dropped a career-high 29 points in a thrilling Raider victory.

FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 78

Concordia University Wisconsin - 73

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (15-11, 10-6 NACC) recorded the first points of the game on a layup from Mahima Chokshi, but traded the lead with Falcons (13-13, 12-4 NACC) for most of the first quarter.  Dani Mendez would score six straight points for the Red and White midway through the frame, and after trading three pointers down the stretch, another layup from Chokshi would give MSOE a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.  In the second, the Falcons and Raiders would trade baskets to open the quarter and a Halena Hill layup at the 8:32 mark would give MSOE their first two-possession lead of the game.  A three-pointer from Hill would push the MSOE lead to nine points at 32-25, the Raiders largest lead of the first half.  The Falcons would push to close the deficit as the first half came to a close, with MSOE ahead 36-32 at the break.
  • The Raiders would protect their lead in the third quarter, maintaining at least a two-possession lead through the entire frame.  Free throws from Ella Mensen would give MSOE a ten-point lead with less than two minutes to go in the third, but after a quick three from the Falcons, MSOE's lead would stand at 55-49.  To start the fourth quarter, CUW came out firing, cutting the Raider lead to a single point after a couple Falcon free throws.  The Raiders would head to the free throw line with a chance to extend the lead twice and Elly Kohl and Chokshi came through in the high-pressure situation for MSOE.  Leading 74-70, the Raiders looked to lock down the first conference tournament win for the program since 2015.  A lucky heave from CUW would cut the Raider lead to one, but Lana Kerley hauled in the final rebounds of the game.  After her successful free throws the Raiders would emerge by a final score of 78-73.
