Men's Volleyball Downed by Tigers in Five Sets

MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's volleyball team hit the hardwood Saturday night, hosting Wittenberg University in another out of region contest. The two sides traded each set before the Tigers came out on top, despite double-digit kill performances from Callan Harris and Tommy Clausz.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 2

Wittenberg - 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Wittenberg (8-6, 0-0 MCVL), who came off a match earlier in the day, didn't have any rust to shake off as they immediately took a 6-2 lead from the get-go. MSOE (1-4, 0-0 NACC) brought it to within two after an ace from Harris. The Tigers offense, which hit .40 in the first set, rallied late, despite back-to-back aces from Clausz to cut into the deficit, took the first set 25-21.
  • The Raiders had the slight edge to begin the second set after Clausz picked up two more service aces until the Tigers tied things at nine after miscues from the Red & White. After the Raiders took their largest lead of the set when Clausz and Parker Rings stuffed them at the net, they maintained control from there to tie up at the match with a 25-22 set win.
  • Things were neck and neck throughout the third set until late when the Tigers found momentum to take a 23-18 lead and then controlled the set from there to win 25-20. In the fourth, Seth Thomas entered the match and made his presence known, adding three kills and joining Matthew Schultz for a block as the Raiders stormed away from the Tigers easily to win the fourth set 25-16 to force a fifth. The Raiders offense didn't have anything left in the final set as the Tigers easily took the final set 15-10.
