Men's Volleyball Fends Off Eagles in Four Sets

MILWAUKEE – After taking the first two sets with ease, the MSOE men's volleyball team fended off the massive charge that Edgewood College made to take the match in four sets.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 3

Edgewood - 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (7-9, 5-1 NACC) commanded the first lead after a 5-0 run with two aces from Gregory Kubon to take a 9-4 lead. The runs continued when the Raiders put together a 7-1 run and then immediately made a 7-0 run to take a 23-9 lead. Edgewood (5-11, 2-5 NACC) battled to cut their deficit but a service ace from them ended the set with the Raiders winning 25-13.
  • The Raiders continued to catch fire offensively when they took a 11-4 lead to begin the second set. The Eagles battled to get with five midway through but then faltered with errors of their own to give the Red & White a 21-12 lead. After picking up a trio of points, Tommy Clausz ending things with a service ace to take it 25-15.
  • After it seemed like the Raiders were just going to completely run away with it, the Eagles came out firing to take a 6-3 lead to begin the third set. After three consecutive errors tied up the score, the two traded runs with the Eagles leading 14-12 midway through. With the Raiders taking a 20-19 lead late, the Eagles began to rattle things off to win the third set and extended it 26-24.
  • After neither team commanded things early, the Eagles rattled off five straight to take a 15-10 lead. The Raiders made four consecutive kills to cut it to one before not taking the lead back until miscues from the Eagles gave them a 22-21 lead late. After the Eagles put two more points to their total, Seth Thomas and Callan Harris each added kills to end the match 25-22.
