Women's Soccer Falls in NCAA Tournament Rematch with #25 Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The MSOE women's soccer team clashed with the Knights of Calvin University on Saturday afternoon, in a rematch of the 2023 NCAA Tournament Second Round.  After a scoreless first half, the Knights would break through first as the Raiders fell to the #25 ranked team in the country.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
#25 Calvin University Knights – 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders (0-2-0, 0-0-0 NACC) withstood an early onslaught from the Knights (2-0-0, 0-0-0 MIAA) as #25 Calvin recorded five corner kicks in the opening eight minutes, generating two shots on goal, both saved by Page SanchezSamantha Fleischman would put the first shot on goal for the Raiders in the ninth minute, but was unable to find the back of the net, as the Red and White were able to muster just one more shot in the scoreless first half.  MSOE and Calvin went to the break with a combined eight shots across the first 45 minutes of play.
  • The Knights would up their aggression coming out of halftime, being called twice for offsides in the first three minutes of the half.  After a yellow card was assessed to MSOE, Calvin was able to break the scoring drought as the Knights went up 1-0.  The Knights tallied their second goal ten minutes later, turning the heat up on the Raiders.  With time beginning to run out on the Raiders, Elizabeth Kuhn muscled her way across the field and through the box, delivering a left-footed strike to cut the MSOE deficit in half.  With five minutes to play the Red and White would push for an equalizing goal, but the Knights would take advantage of the Raiders high-risk play as the Raiders would fall 3-1 after a late goal from the national contenders.
