Women's Soccer Draws with Panthers

ORANGE, Calif. – The MSOE women's soccer team played the first of the two games on the west coast on Friday night as the Raiders clashed with Chapman University Panthers.  The Red and White took an early lead after a goal from Rosario, but a late goal from the Panthers forced a draw.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 1
Chapman University Panthers – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders (0-2-1, 0-0-0 NACC) struck first against the Panthers (2-0-1, 0-0-0 SCIAC) as Elizabeth Kuhn found Rosario Etcheverria Abuin in the seventh minute to give the Raiders an early 1-0 lead.  The Panthers would immediately roar back, recording six straight shots over the next twelve minutes, as Page Sanchez kept them off the board with her first of eight saves against Chapman.  The Raiders would see good chances from Claire Bradford and Samantha Fleischman but were unable to increase their lead as they went to the halftime break still ahead 1-0.
  • The Panthers would control possession to start the second half of play, eagerly looking to find the equalizer as they were called twice for offsides early.  Chapman would see three corner kick opportunities in the first twenty minutes of the second half but were unable to make anything of them while Samantha Shaver and the MSOE defense held strong.  The Panthers, however, would eventually find the back of the net and tie things up at the 74:17 mark.  Alexis Jamiola and Kit Gormley would muster a couple shots for the Red and White in the waning moments of the game, but the Raiders would settle for a draw as they still seek their first win of the season after battling through a gauntlet of tough opponents.
