MILWAUKEE – The MSOE women's volleyball ended the final day of the Raider Invite, dropping a pair of matches against Ripon College and North Central College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- vs. Ripon
- Ripon (4-4, 0-0 Midwest) made the first run of the day to take a 5-0 lead until MSOE (1-6, 0-0 NACC) made their own run to tie up the set at 13. After trading blows back and forth, the Raiders closed on a 7-1 run with back-to-back aces from Natalie Martinez to finish off the set to win 25-22. The Red Hawks asserted themselves early in the second set, making an 8-1 run midway through, making it 16-7 before running away to win 25-17 to tie the match at a set a piece, 25-17.
- The Red Hawks continued to press their foot on the gas in the third set, opening to take a 16-4 lead. Katie Moser helped to cut into the deficit, making three kills in the middle of a 7-1 to run to make it 18-11 before the Red Hawks closed with seven straight points to win 25-11. The Raiders were able to regroup in the fourth set, having a 14-11 advantage with a pair of kills from Ana Knutson, but the Red Hawks continued to make long runs to lead 21-16. After the Raiders immediately tied up the set at 21, the Red Hawks put the final nail in the coffin to take it 25-23.
- Abby Balkema led the way making 10 kills while Knutson added eight. Maddie Abel played her role setting up the Raider attackers, making 16 assists with Joelle Harrington not too far behind with 12.
- vs. North Central
- North Central (5-2, 0-0 CCIW) didn't miss a beat to begin the match, taking a 16-7 lead before miscues by them helped the Raiders cut it to seven to make it 16-11. The Raiders couldn't muster up any runs after that point, dropping the set 25-16.
- The Raiders were able to find momentum in the second set as Knutson added a kill and two aces to give them a 6-4 lead to begin. The Cardinals weren't phased one bit to stay in it to take the lead midway through and didn't let it up to win 25-19. After knocking in the first two points, the Raiders fell behind 5-3 and held that margin until late when the Cardinals made it 22-16. Making it 23-19, the Cardinals knocked in the final two to win it 25-19.
- Knutson led things offensively, making seven kills and Harrington adding eleven assists. Moser and Martinez led the backline, each making double-digit digs and the two and Knutson had two service aces.
WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders will head to the Quad Cities next weekend for the Viking Classic, hosted by Augustana College. The Red & White will kick off the weekend, facing Hamline University on Friday, September 12
th at 5:00 p.m.
