Women's Basketball Bounces Back Against CUW

MEQUON, Wis. – The MSOE women's basketball team made the short trip up I-43 on Saturday afternoon, as the Raiders held off a third-quarter push from the Falcons with a bounce-back win over CUW.

FINAL SCORE

MSOE RAIDERS – 52
Concordia Wisconsin - 42

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MSOE (13-5, 8-3 NACC) and CUW (5-14, 4-7 NACC) traded baskets to open the first quarter, with a three pointer from Halena Hill giving the Raiders their first two-possession lead of the game with 3:24 left in the frame.  After the Falcons brought the deficit back to a single point, another Red and White three, this time from Elly Kohl, gave MSOE a 16-12 lead heading into the second quarter.  After turnovers marred the opening minutes of the second quarter, free throws from Hill would end the scoring drought and kick off an MSOE run.  A three from Mahima Chokshi and a layup from Dani Mendez would give the Raiders a double-digit lead just after the midway point of the frame, with the Falcons closing the gap to 27-21 as the teams went to the break.
  • Coming out of halftime, the Raiders would push their lead back over the double-digit threshold, but would go ice cold from there, shooting just 17% from three in the third quarter.  The Falcons would capitalize on their defensive play, cutting the MSOE to lead to just 36-33 going to the fourth quarter.  The Falcons would tie the game up on the ensuing possession of the final frame, but CUW would never regain the lead, as steals from Mendez and Hill sparked a late run from the Red and White.  A three pointer from Lana Kerley would push the MSOE to 48-38, as the Raiders locked up their eighth conference win of the season, and third straight against the Falcons.
