MILWAUKEE. – The MSOE women's basketball team celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day in style on Wednesday night, as they hammered the Lakeland Muskies for their ninth conference win of the year.
FINAL SCORE
Lakeland Muskies – 40
MSOE RAIDERS - 65
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (14-5, 9-3 NACC) worked their way to an early lead over Lakeland (9-12, 6-7 NACC) after a foul-filled first quarter, as the Raiders held the Muskies to just 15% shooting from the field. A layup from Halena Hill would give the Red and White an eight-point, first-quarter lead, with a Muskie three-pointer cutting the MSOE advantage to 15-10. The Muskies would not give up so quickly, battling the Raiders to keep things within a single possession through most of the second frame. The Raiders would finally push their lead back to two possessions on another layup from Hill, as free throws from Lana Kerley closed the first half with MSOE ahead 29-22.
- Coming out of halftime, the Raiders would withstand an early push from the Muskies, before putting their foot to the floor and leaving Lakeland in the rearview mirror. The MSOE lead would reach nineteen points by the end off the third quarter following a three from Shelby Glodowski, with Glodowski pushing the MSOE lead over the 20-point threshold on the ensuing possession of the fourth quarter. The Raiders lead would reach as much as 26 points three separate times after baskets from Mahima Chokshi, Dani Mendez and Elly Kohl, respectively, as the Red and White ran away with the 65-40 victory.
