PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The MSOE men's soccer team took down the Lakeland Muskies on Wednesday night, in a heavyweight clash between two of the NACC's best, with
Lachlan Ladd scoring two goals, including the game winner in a 3-2 victory.
RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 3
Lakeland Muskies - 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders (7-4-3, 6-1-2 NACC) would fall behind the Muskies (11-4-2, 5-2-2 NACC) after an early yellow card was assessed against the Red and White, leading to a Lakeland goal at the 11:50 mark of the first half. The Raiders would begin to establish their attack the rest of the first half, with Owen Pacetti being turned away by the Lakeland goalkeeper. In the final five minutes of the first half, Lachlan Ladd would put the Raiders on the board, courtesy of an assist from Cole Clevenstine, as the teams went to the break deadlocked at 1-1.
- Coming out of halftime, the Raiders wasted little time getting back to work, with Diego Gonzalo recording his third goal of the season less than six minutes into the second half to put MSOE in the driver's seat with a 2-1 lead. At the 59:27 mark of the contest, Lakeland would record the equalizer, knotting things up with 30 minutes left to play. It would take the Red and White just 118 seconds to get back on top, as Nate Gendrich fed Ladd for his second goal of evening, giving MSOE a 3-2 lead as the momentum of the contest did a full 360 in a two-minute span. From there, the MSOE defense would suffocate the Lakeland attack, as the Muskies registered just two shots down the stretch, with one sailing high and another stopped by Christian Dershem. With the win, the Raiders inch closer to securing a home playoff game in the NACC Tournament, with just three conference games left in the regular season.
