Raiders Fend Off Sabres in Four Sets

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The MSOE women's volleyball team fended off late push to defeat Marian University in four sets Thursday evening.

RESULT
MSOE RAIDERS – 3

Marian - 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sydney Emineth led a charge for the early MSOE (13-8, 7-2 NACC) momentum, making a pair of blocks with a kill on a 6-0 run to lead 8-4. Things stayed steady until Marian (5-21, 1-8 NACC) began a 5-0 run to tie the set at 17. A solo block from Emineth started a mini-run that had an ace from Natalie Martinez and a kill from Ella Notheisen put the Raiders in front 21-19 as they began to roll from there as Emma Schattschneider threw down the final two kills to win the opening set 25-21.
  • Set two saw the Sabres had momentum early, leading 14-10 hoping to have the lead at the technical timeout. That hope went away quickly as the Raiders rolled on a 5-0 run with a pair of kills from Schattschneider as a kill from Genevieve Robertson put the Raiders up 15-14 at the timeout. The Sabres grabbed the lead back but committed five straight errors, the final due to a block from Katie Moser and Emineth to put the Raiders back in front 21-18. The Raiders keep that steady lead for the remainder of the set as Schattschneider once again clinched the set win, 25-22.
  • The Sabres flipped things entirely to open set three, leading 9-3 to open. The Raiders fought back to go on a 5-0 run, capped with a trio of kills from Robertson to tie it at ten. The Sabres wouldn't go away as a few points later they went on a 7-1 run for their largest lead of the match 20-12 before forcing a fourth set, winning 25-17. The Sabres couldn't land their kills in play to begin set four, putting the Raiders in front 7-2 to open. The Raiders went on a long run midway through to take the lead 17-15 before an ace from Schattschneider put the Red & White back ahead 18-17. After the lead traded back-and-forth twice, back-to-back kills from Notheisen put the lead back to the Raiders' side as they didn't look back as Schattschneider sealed it, 25-22.
