MILWAUKEE– The MSOE men's lacrosse team demolished the Golden Eagles of Spalding University on Saturday afternoon, as the Raiders faced little resistance in a runaway victory at Viets Field.
RESULT
Spalding Golden Eagles – 2
MSOE RAIDERS – 26
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders (2-1) took just 45 seconds to take the lead against the Golden Eagles (0-2) as Will Malecha recorded the first goal of many for the Raiders, setting the tone for the matchup early. By the midway point of the first quarter, the Raiders would hold a 5-0 lead, with Dawson Smith tallying the sixth goal of the afternoon for the Red and White with 6:40 left in the first frame. Paul Brueck would tally the last MSOE goal of the first quarter with an unassisted effort, putting the Raiders up 9-0 at the end of the first. After Spalding scored their lone goal of the first half, the Raiders would put their foot on the gas, scoring four goals in the final five minutes of the first half. After Brueck's second goal capped off the Raiders' run, MSOE would lead 15-1 at the break.
- Coming out of halftime, both teams would swap goalies, though it would make little impact on the final score. Isaac Johnston would assist Andrew Toman as the Raiders resumed scoring just 64 seconds into the second half. Johnston would finish with a hat trick and seven assists on the day, as the Raiders ran away with the 26-2 win. Johnston, Smith, and Malecha would all record hat tricks, as well as Cole Karst and Tom Farren, the latter leading the team with five goals in the lopsided contest.
