CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA –
Toren Vandenbush represented the MSOE wrestling team on Friday at the NCAA DIII National Championships, as the sophomore picked up a win in his preliminary match at 174 before bowing out of the tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Toren Vandenbush kicked off the tournament against Jermaine Butler of UW-Whitewater in a championship prelim bout, with the sophomore bouncing back from an early takedown and bloodied nose to secure a 12-5 decision win, earning his spot in the championship bracket.
- Vandenbush would fall in his next bout to No. 4 seed Ty Finn of NYU via major decision as he move to the wrestle backs. On the flipside of the bracket, the Belgium, Wisconsin native fell to Mike Slade of Wartburg in a 7-3 decision, ending his run in Cedar Rapids.
WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders have finished their season with a 7-7 dual record. The Raiders finished 4
th at the CCIW Championships and 8
th at the NCAA Upper Regional. Vandenbush picked up the CCIW Elite 26 award for outstanding student-athlete after being crowned CCIW Champion, alongside teammate
Alex Morales. MSOE was named NACC Tournament champions after a first-place finish at the NACC Showcase.
