MILWAUKEE – The MSOE men's lacrosse team hosted the first playoff game at Viets Field in program history, as the Raiders avenged their regular season loss to the No. 6 Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks with their ninth win at home this season, and first playoff win in team history.
RESULT
No. 6 Illinois Tech – 10
No. 3 MSOE RAIDERS – 15
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (13–5, 8-3 NACC) led Illinois Tech (7-11, 7-4 NACC) after Isaac Johnston found Carter Stahl and an unassisted effort from Jack Civottolo gave the Red and White an early lead. The Scarlet Hawks would respond with a run of three answered goals to take a 3-2 lead to close the first quarter, before the first of four Cole Karst goal tied the game back up just nineteen seconds into the second frame. Back-to-back goals from Dawson Smith helped the Raiders preserve their lead, and after a trio of goals from Karst, Johnston and Stahl, MSOE would lead 8-6 at the break.
- Coming out of halftime, Karst would secure his hat trick before consecutive goals from Illinois Tech brought the Scarlet Hawks within a goal. After trading goals back-and-forth with Tech, Smith would break the pattern to give MSOE a 12-10 lead, as Alex Lo and the MSOE defense shut the Scarlet Hawks down in the final eleven minutes of the game, with the senior goalie recording a goal on a heave from his end of the field, capping off the playoff win in style.
