Men's Soccer Demolishes Preseason Favorite Eagles

MILWAUKEE – On Wednesday night, the MSOE men's soccer team hosted the Edgewood University Eagles at Viets Field, as the Raiders sent the preseason favorites packing, posting a shutout win at Viets Field and handing the opposition their first regular-season conference loss since 2023.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders (3-3-2, 2-0-1 NACC) and Eagles (2-4-2, 2-1-0 NACC) played a scoreless first half, with both teams racing up and down the pitch, stretching the opposing defenses as they searched for shots.  The Raiders would get quality looks from both Nico Picha and Braedon Smith, but the Edgewood keeper would record saves on both occasions.  Despite the scoreless first half, the teams would combine for ten first-half shots, with the Raiders outshooting the Eagles seven to three.
  • In the second half, it would take less than five minutes for the Red and White to open the scoring as Filip Aniecko placed a corner kick on the far side of the box, with Andrew Calderon heading a ball past the Eagles goalie for a 1-0 lead, with the freshman breaking out what is becoming a signature backflip celebration in front of a raucous Viets Field crowd.
  • At the 61:13 mark, Gunnar Peterson would heave a Raider throw in to the middle of the field, with Picha playing a perfect touch for another MSOE goal, doubling the Red and White's lead over the preseason conference favorites.  Picha would add another goal to his stat line on an unassisted effort with less than four minutes remaining, as the Raiders dealt the Eagles their first regular season-conference loss since October 25th, 2023 by a final score of 3-0.

WHO'S ON DECK
The Raiders will head to Aurora University for a rematch of the past two NACC Tournament Championship matches this Saturday, September 26th.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 P.M.
