MILWAUKEE – Freshman Austin Campbell made 22 saves and senior Steven Shaffroth scored the game's lone goal as the MSOE hockey team defeated Lawrence 1-0 Friday evening at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (3-12-1, 2-7 NCHA) pressured the Vikings (4-11-1, 3-6 NCHA) the entire night, forging a dominant 51-22 shot advantage.

Shaffroth's second goal of the season came in an action-packed second period that saw MSOE outshoot the visitors 22-5. Senior Michael Thompson blasted a shot from the point which Shaffroth deflected over the goalie's shoulder and into the net. Senior West Bauman and Thompson were credited with assists.

The Red and White controlled the puck in its attacking zone for almost the rest of the period, sending eight shots at the LU goal before allowing a brief respite with just seconds to go in the frame.

Lawrence did make the game interesting, pulling the goal with 1:10 remaining in the game to push for the tying goal. The Vikings utilized the extra attacker to stay on the attack for nearly the entire minute, save for a couple clearances, but the Raider defense was up to the task and kept the visitors out of the net.

Campbell picked up the first shutout of his career, continuing a strong run of play that has seen him go unbeaten in his last three starts (2-0-1). He has stopped 67 of 70 shots faced in that time.

Mattias Soderqvist was strong in goal for Lawrence, making 50 saves on the night.

The weekend series concludes Saturday in Appleton, as the Raiders and Vikings return to the ice at 7 p.m.
