Box Score MILWAUKEE – Freshman Omar Mullan scored the game-winner with 18.8 seconds remaining in overtime to cap a comeback from 5-1 down for the MSOE hockey team in a 6-5 victory over Aurora Saturday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (3-4) won their third-straight game behind two goals from both Mullan and sophomore Gage Christianson. The Spartans (0-5) fell just short of their first win as a varsity program despite a pair of scored by Trevor Hoth.
Aurora scored the first three goals of the game and led 3-1 after one period. The visitors then struck for two more goals in the second to take a 5-1 lead by 14:45 of the second frame.
MSOE then responded with three-straight goals over the final five minutes of the period to make it a 5-4 game. Christianson then added the equalizer at 13:27 of the third period to cap the comeback. His goal held up as the period's lone tally.
As the seconds wound down in the extra frame, the Red & White pressure finally paid off. AU called timeout with one minute to play, but it was the Raiders that controlled the puck for the bulk of the remaining seconds. Mullan ended the game at the back post off assists from Christianson and freshman James Ring.
Mullan added two assists for a four-point night, while Christianson notched three points. Freshman James Ring and junior Evan Wilson also lit the lamp for MSOE. Wilson's was one of two unassisted goals on the night, including Christianson's equalizer.
Hoth paced the visiting offense, also adding a pair of assists for four points. Michael Mikulan scored two goals and assisted on another and Rihards Marenis had four assists in the game.
The Raiders held a commanding 53-26 shot advantage, but Michael Kitts stopped 47 shots on the night. Junior Nick Kohn got the win in goal for MSOE, making 21 saves.
The weekend series wraps up Sunday night at the Kern Center. The puck will drop at 6 p.m. in a game that was originally scheduled for 2 p.m.
