Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – The MSOE hockey team took a 4-2 lead into the third period, but could not hold on in falling to No. 6 Adrian 5-4 Friday evening at Arrington Ice Arena.
The Raiders (0-3, 0-3 NCHA) held two goal leads at 2-0, 3-1 and 4-2 against the Bulldogs (3-0, 3-0 NCHA), but could not withstand a third-period push.
Adrian netted three unanswered goals in the final period to complete its comeback. The home team held a 21-8 shot advantage in the period, scoring goals at 4:37 and 6:33 to level the game at 4-4. Ryan Lowe then added the winner on the power play at 12:47.
Freshmen accounted for all four of MSOE's goals in the game, as Omar Mullan picked up his first two collegiate goals. Jerad Tafoya and Eric Tien each scored a goal and assisted on another.
Tafoya scored his team-best third-best goal of the game 3:15 into the game with MSOE short-handed on an assist from freshman James Ring. Tafoya then set up Tien's goal at 11:59.
After Adrian pulled a goal back in the closing minutes of the first period, the team's traded goals just under 30 seconds apart in the second. Mullen netted a power play goal off assists from sophomore Gage Christianson and Brent Wilcox at 7:23 to re-establish the two-goal advantage at 3-1.
Despite an answer at 7:52, the Red & White would once again go up two when Mullan lit the lamp again, this time off an assist from Tien, at 11:56.
The Raiders had to withstand a rush by the Bulldogs in the opening period, but came away with the 2-1 lead despite conceding an 18-6 shot advantage. MSOE then outshot the home team 10-6 in the second period before the final-period outburst led to a final 45-24 shot edge for Adrian.
Junior Nick Kohn got the start in goal for the Raiders, making 40 saves on the night in his fourth-straight start against ranked competition.
