Box Score MILWAUKEE – Junior Casey Moneer scored a pair of power play goals as the MSOE hockey team looked to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Raiders came up short in a 3-2 loss to Lawrence Saturday evening at the Kern Center.
MSOE (10-7, 5-5 NCHA) saw its four-game winning streak snapped as the hands of the Vikings (6-10-1, 5-5 NCHA) after spotting the visitors a 2-0 lead in the first period.
Trailing 2-0 late in the first period, Moneer pounced on a rebound in front of the net and put it in the goal to halve the visitor's advantage. Unfortunately, the two-goal deficit was re-established just 35 seconds later on a Blake Roubos goal for Lawrence.
Moneer once again pounced when the Raiders had the man advantage, striking again at 8:54 of the second period. This time, he took a centering pass just off the face off and beat the goalie at the back post. The goal came just six seconds into the Viking penalty at 8:54.
MSOE fought to get the equalizer, but came up short. It played with an extra man for the final 1:12, adding some drama to the final seconds, but was unable to find the crucial goal.
Lawrence struck from a pair of unassisted goals in the opening period, as Matt Moore collected a turnover in the attacking zone and used a wrist shot to beat the goalie with a one-on-one just 5:13 into the game despite the Raiders being on the power play.
Ryan Eardley added another score, taking advantage of a two-on-one down the center of the ice to make it 2-0 at 13:04 of the first period.
The Raiders were outshot 44-41 on the night. Freshman Zach Woodman played 41:56 in goal in relief of sophomore starter Austin Campbell, making 30 saves without allowing a goal. Campbell got the loss, making 11 saves in 16:52 of action.
Mattias Soderqvist made 39 saves in the game to give the Vikings the victory.
The Raiders return to the ice Thursday, hosting the opening game of a home-and-home weekend series with No. 1 St. Norbert. The game will be televised live on Time Warner Cable Sports Channel.
