Box Score MILWAUKEE - Freshman Jerad Tafoya scored two goals and junior Nick Kohn stopped all 17 shots he faced as the MSOE hockey team shut out St. Mary's 4-0 Sunday afternoon at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (7-6) scored in each period and killed off all six power plays for the Cardinals (3-6-2) in posting their second shutout of the season.
Junior Nick LaRue and freshman Zach Simpson also lit the lamp and added assists for MSOE. Freshmen Omar Mullan tallied assists on a pair of scores, as well.
The game started with neither team gaining much of a foothold until the 15:13 mark when Simpson struck first for the Raiders. His slap shot from near the left wing got the scoring and served as the game-winner.
Tafoya netted the first of his two goals 7:17 into the second period, taking advantage of a 4v4 situation on the ice. LaRue added an insurance goal with 1:02 to play in the frame, working a give-and-go down the center of the ice with Mullan to make it 3-0.
Tafoya struck again at 6:41 of the final period to create the final score.
For Kohn, it was his fourth career shutout and first of the season.
The Raiders return to action next weekend on a two-game road swing through northwestern Wisconsin. They play at UW-Stout Friday and UW-Superior Saturday.
