MILWAUKEE – Junior Jordan Guth and freshman Michael Romund each scored their first collegiate goals to lead the MSOE hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Northland Friday evening at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (3-2, 3-2 NCHA) got goals early in each of the first two period and their defense stifled the Lumberjacks (0-5, 0-3 NCHA) all night.

Guth got MSOE on the board just 2:12 into the game off assists from senior Evan Wilson and junior Gage Christianson. Christianson was behind the net when he picked out Guth right in front of the crease for the score.

Then, just 43 seconds into the second period it was Romund lighting the lamp. Sophomore Omar Mullan found Romund with a centering pass and the rookie one-timed a shot past the NC goalie. The game jump-started an offensive frame for the Raiders, as they outshot the Jacks 19-4.

Senior Nick Kohn made 16 saves in the game for his first shutout of the season and the eighth of his career. He moves into a tie with Matt Burzon for second in school history for career shutouts, just two back of current assistant coach Connor Toomey.

The Raiders finished with a commanding 38-16 shot advantage for the game. Northland's AJ Smith made 36 saves on the night to keep the visitors close.

Guth's goal was the first of his collegiate career as he returned to the ice this season after playing college baseball at UW-Milwaukee for three seasons and then professional baseball in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

The series concludes Saturday at the Kern Center. Puck drops at 2 p.m.
