Box Score MEQUON, Wis. – Three different players scored and the MSOE hockey team tied a school record with its fifth shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over Concordia Wisconsin Friday evening at Ozaukee Ice Center.
The Raiders (15-9, 10-7 NCHA) kept the Falcons (8-16, 4-13 NCHA) off the scoreboard to equal the 2006-07 squad's record-setting shutout total.
Junior Nick Kohn made 31 saves for his third shutout of the season, while junior Nick LaRue and freshmen Eric Tien and Jerad Tafoya each lit the lamp on the night.
LaRue got the scoring started the scoring on a power play at 5:29 of the second period. He netted his seventh goal of the season, and fourth scored on the power play. The goal was set up by freshman Omar Mullan and sophomore Gage Christianson in his return to the lineup after missing eight games with an injury.
MSOE struck twice more in the third period, as Tien doubled its advantage with a goal at 12:16 on assists from Tafoya and freshman James Ring. The score came just seconds after CUW was able to kill off a power play.
Tafoya then sealed the victory with an empty net goal at 18:58. Ring added another assist on the goal, as junior Kevin LoGiudice also had an assist.
Kohn's night added to both his and the team's tremendous defensive record this season. He lowered his goals against average to 2.06 and pushed his save percentage to .928. He is the fifth goalie to post three shutouts in a season, matching his total from his freshman season, and is just one off Connor Toomey's school record of four, set in 2010-11.
The series concludes Saturday at the Kern Center. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
