Box Score MILWAUKEE – Freshman Omar Mullan and sophomore Gage Christianson each had a hand in all three goals and the MSOE hockey team posted its second-straight shutout in a 3-0 victory over Concordia Wisconsin Saturday evening at the Kern Center.
The Raiders (16-9, 11-7 NCHA) blanked the Falcons (8-17, 4-14 NCHA) in both games of the series, the first time they've shutout a weekend series, and broke the school record for shutouts in a season with six.
While Mullan and Christianson provided the fire power, junior Nick Kohn backed another standout defensive effort. He made 34 saves for his second-straight shutout and school record-tying fourth of the season. He is the only goalie in school history to post back-to-back shutouts and has done so twice this season.
With a St. Scholastica loss at Marian earlier in the day, MSOE clinched the No. 4 seed in the Harris Cup Playoffs. They will host Marian, which secured the No 5 seed, in a quarterfinal series starting Friday at the Kern Center.
After scoring a 3-0 win on the road in the series opener, the Raiders wasted very little time in going for the sweep. They capitalized on a penalty in the first minute of the game to light the lamp just 46 seconds into the man advantage. Christianson scored the power play winner at 1:28 off assists from Mullan and sophomore Cody Ganchar.
Mullan doubled the Red & White advantage at 12:46 of the opening period with his first goal of the game off an assist from Christianson and senior Laurie Gieni. Mullan then added an insurance goal late in the second period off another assist from his sophomore linemate. The goal came at 16:36 of the second period.
The defense in front of Kohn gave him all the help he needed, even as Concordia pulled its goalie with just over two minutes remaining. The Raiders rode out the final minutes of the game with little incident, despite an extra attacker for the visiting team.
