Box Score FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The No. 14 MSOE men's hockey team fell behind 3-0 and could not rebound in falling to Marian in the first game of a weekend series Friday evening at the Blue Line Ice Center.
The Raiders (12-6, 7-6 NCHA) pulled a goal back, but the Sabres (12-5-3, 10-4-1 NCHA) added another goal and held off the visitors.
Marian, which is ranked 13th in the D3hockey.com national poll, struck for two goals in the first period and opened the scoring in a wild third period. Gianni Mangone got the home team on the board just 2:49 into the game. Scott Meyer then doubled the advantage at 11:50.
MSOE got on the board in a wild three-goal outburst over a span of 1:47. The Sabres extended their lead at 6:51, but sophomore Omar Mullan pulled that goal back quickly just 12 seconds later. Junior Gage Christianson and junior Cody Ganchar assisted on the goal.
MU answered right back to lead 4-1 at 8:38.
The Raiders were outshot 30-16 on the night. Senior Nick Kohn got the start in goal for the Red & White and finished with 26 saves. Mike Baldwin stopped 15 shots for the win.
The series concludes Saturday at the Kern Center in Milwaukee. The puck drops at 4 p.m.
