ASHLAND, Wisconsin – Senior Gage Christianson scored the equalizer inside the final two minutes of regulation as the MSOE hockey team overcame a 2-0 earn a 4-4 draw with Northland Friday night at the Bay Area Civic Center.

Christianson scored a power play goal with just 1:33 remaining in regulation to pull the Raiders (1-2-2, 1-2-2 NCHA) even with the Lumberjacks (1-3-1, 1-3-1 NCHA) and force overtime.

Four different players scored for MSOE, which was playing catch-up the entire night.

Northland had jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, despite conceding a 12-9 shot advantage to the visitors.

Junior Jerad Tafoya then got the Red & White on the board quickly in the second period, finishing off a pass from junior James Ring at the 3:03 mark. Christianson would then set up sophomore Matthew Romund for the equalizer at 10:46.

The tie score would be short-lived, as Northland pulled ahead with a goal at 16:06 and carried a 3-2 advantage to the final period.

Once again, a quick Raider score knotted the game, this time at 3-3 just 21 seconds into the final period. Junior Zack Simpson scored this time, with Ring notching his second assist of the game.

As the teams skated late into regulation, NC went out ahead, yet again, this time at the 16:38 mark.

This set up Christianson's late-game heroics, coming 50 seconds into a tripping penalty and coming off assists from Tafoya and junior Clint Garris.

Shots were 34-26 in favor of the Raiders. MSOE went 1-for-5 on power plays and killed off six of Northland's seven power plays on the night.

Senior Austin Campbell started his second-straight game in goal, making 21 saves on the night. Brett Young stopped 29 shots for the Lumberjacks.

The series wraps up Saturday when these teams meet at 2 p.m.
