MSOE Falls Short at Lawrence, 2-1

Box Score

APPLETON, Wis. – The MSOE hockey team put 47 shots on goal, but could only light the lamp once in falling to Lawrence 2-1 Saturday evening at the Appleton Family Ice Center.

The Raiders (12-8-1, 7-8-1 NCHA) overcame a one-goal deficit for the third time in the series, but after skating to a 2-2 tie Friday, they could not equalize against the Vikings (7-12-2, 6-8-2 NCHA) just one more time.

Nick Felan scored the game-winning goal, lighting the lamp 3:34 into the third period.

Lawrence opened the scoring just after the midway point of the second period, as Matt Moore struck for a power play goal. The lead would last less than three minutes as sophomore Chris Hinrichs netted the equalizer at 15:02. His score was set up by junior Gage Christianson and sophomore Omar Mullan.

MSOE held shot advantages in all three periods, including 17-10 in the third as they fought for another equalizer. The Red & White pushed forward in the final minute, playing with an empty net for the final 51 seconds of regulation. After escaping a wide LU shot without a goalie, it push just one shot on goal itself before time expired.

The Raiders finished with 47-31 shot advantage, They went 0-for-5 on power plays, while the home team was successful on 1-f-6 man advantages. Senior Nick Kohn made 29 saves in the contest, while Mattias Soderqvist made over 40 saves for the second-straight night, finishing with 46.

MSOE returns to the ice next weekend, playing Aurora in a weekend series where both games will be played at the Kern Center.
