Box Score

LAKE FOREST, Illinois – The MSOE hockey team erased a 2-0 deficit with three unanswered goals to defeat Lake Forest 3-2 Saturday evening and earn a weekend series split.

The Raiders (5-5-3, 2-4-2 NCHA) posted its fifth comeback victory of the season and its third-straight win in games in which they trailed 2-0, this time at the expense of the Foresters (9-6, 5-5 NCHA).

Senior Brandon Unser was the hero of the night, netting the game-winner with 4:26 remaining in the game. Junior Chris Hinrichs had started the comeback with short-handed goal as MSOE killed off a five-minute major penalty. Junior Brett Wagner then tied the game earlier in the third period.

Junior Zach Woodman made 25 saves on the night to register the victory.

LFC struck first for the second-straight night, this time scoring just 1:31 into the game. Bron Loiselle then doubled the home team's advantage at 8:52 of the first period.

Hinrichs scored his first goal of the season near the midway point of the second period. The Raiders had just seconds left on a five-minute major power play for the Foresters when he converted off an assist from senior Gage Christianson to half the deficit heading into the final frame.

Wagner's equalizer came at 6:13 of the third period and Unser gave MSOE its first lead of the game at 15:34. The defense then stepped up big, with Woodman making four saves and the team blocking three more shots in the closing minutes to preserve the victory.

Shots were 27-21 in favor of Lake Forest. There were just seven combined penalties on the night with the Raiders going 0-for-1 with the man advantage while killing off all three Forester power plays.

MSOE's last three wins have all come after its opponent has taken a 2-0 lead and have come in the last seven games--Nov. 18 UW Stout (4-3), Nov. 22 St. Mary's (5-2), Dec. 9 UW-Superior (6-4).

The Raiders return to the ice next weekend, hosting St. Scholastica in a weekend series that kicks off Friday evening at the Kern Center.
