DePERE, Wisconsin – Senior Gage Christianson and junior Jerad Tafoya set up goals for each other 1:47 apart in the second period as the MSOE hockey team overcame a 3-1 deficit before falling to No. 2/3 St. Norbert 5-3 Saturday evening at the Cornerstone Ice Center.

The Raiders (12-8-5, 9-7-4 NCHA) and Green Knights (19-5-1, 15-4-1 NCHA) were deadlocked at 3-3 entering the final minute of regulation when the home team broke through for the game-winner and added an empty-net goal at the buzzer.

With the loss, MSOE was eliminated from the Harris Cup Playoff picture and the season came to an end.

St. Norbert struck first at 8:37 of the first period, but sophomore Eric Tien quickly responded. He capitalized on a Raider man advantage to even the score at 1-1 at 10:19 off assists from juniors Brett Wagner and Zach Simpson.

The home team would take a 2-1 lead with a goal at 16:48 of the period, then tack on another seven minutes into the second period.

MSOE started the comeback with another power play score, Tafoya finishing off a pass from Christianson at 11:05. Less than two minutes later, with the teams at equal strength, Tafoya set up Christianson to score his team-leading 15th goal of the season for the equalizer.

The game-winning goal came with just 37.1 seconds to go in regulation, with Dominick Sacco lighting the lap to send SNC to the victory.

Junior Zach Woodman made 27 saves as shots were 32-15 in favor of the Green Knights. Two goalies split time in net for St. Norbert and combined on 12 saves. The Raiders went 2-for-4 on power plays and killed off four of five power plays for the other team.
