MILWAUKEE – The MSOE hockey team jumped out to a 2-0 lead but could not hold on in falling to Aurora 4-2 Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (2-5-1, 2-3-1 NCHA) conceded a pair of third-period goals to break a 2-2 tie and allow the Spartans (7-3, 5-1 NCHA) to escape the victors.

Junior Kevin Shand and freshman Brandon Turer were goal scorers for MSOE.

Sophomore Rock Boynton stopped 24 shots in the game.

It was Turer who scored first, lighting the lamp midway through the opening period off assists from sophomore Adam Ostrowski and freshman Matt Kindred. Shand then followed suit at 17:41 off an assist from senior Michael Romund.

Aurora knocked the wind out of the Raiders' sails with a power play goal just under a minute later to get on the board. The visitors then tied the game just 28 seconds later to seize momentum.

After a scoreless second period, AU scored in quick succession again, this time 48 seconds apart in the opening minutes of the third period.

The Red & White was unable to generate much of a comeback, being outshot 9-3 in the final period. The Spartans finished with a 28-19 shot advantage in the game. The Raiders were hounded by penalties with 29 minutes accumulated on nine infractions compared to just 14 minutes on three penalties for Aurora. The visitors had seven power plays in the game to just two for MSOE, including for 9-of-20 minutes in the second period.

The Raiders take a break from league play when they return to the ice midweek for a two-game swing through Minnesota. They play at Concordia-Moorhead Wednesday and Bethel on Thursday.
