Hockey Suffers Defeat at Aurora, 3-2

Box Score

GENEVA, Illinois – The MSOE hockey team took a pair of one-goal leads but could not hold on in falling to Aurora Saturday afternoon on the road.

For the second-straight game, the Raiders (6-11-4, 4-7-3 NCHA) scored first and went ahead 2-1 but the Spartans (10-11, 7-7 NCHA) pulled level each time and notched a game-winner inside the last four minutes of regulation.

Senior Michael Romund scored for the second-straight game with junior Evan Kearns also lighting the lamp.

Like Friday night, Romund opened the scoring in the first period. His goal came just 2:52 into the game and was assisted by freshman Brendan Ferguson.

Unfortunately, Aurora pulled a goal back on a power play at 15:29.

After a scoreless second period, Kearns struck for the go-ahead goal at just the 1:35 mark of the third period. He was set up by sophomore Jeff Makowski and freshman Jack Nickels.

The Spartans pulled even once again on the power play, just 4:06 later. They then pulled ahead at 16:20 and was able to hold on for the victory.

The Raiders looked to threaten the entire game, holding a decisive 31-17 shot advantage but conceded a pair of power-play goals in five chances for AU. Meanwhile, the Red & White came up empty with the man advantage in five attempts.

Sophomore Rock Boynton made 14 saves in the game.

The Raiders return to the ice in the first half of a home-and-home weekend series with Concordia Wisconsin Friday. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. at the Kern Center.
