Redmon's Winner Sends Hockey Past CUW, 4-3

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Junior Nick Redmon scored a power-play goal late in regulation to send the MSOE hockey team to a key 4-3 victory over Concordia Wisconsin Friday night at the Kern Center.

The Raiders (7-11-4, 5-7-3 NCHA) prevailed in a back-and-forth contest that saw the Falcons (7-12-3, 5-8-2 NCHA) pull even on three occasions.

Sophomore Garrett Gintoli scored two goals of his own and senior Michael Romund lit the lamp for the third-straight game to round out the scorers. Gintoli assisted on Redmon's winner while Romund added two assists on the night.

Tied at 3-3 after a CUW goal at 15:11 of the third period, MSOE settled into a 4-on-3 power play and worked the puck along the blue line to Redmon, who hit a laser past the goalie at 17:48. The defense then held up the rest of the way, fending off an added attacker for the final 1:12 of regulation.

MSOE struck first at 8:46 of the opening period. Romund snapped in a wrist shot from near the left face-off circle that evaded the goalie and slipped into the net. He was assisted by sophomores Will Gauthier and Adem Arifi.

The Falcons countered early in the second period, at 4:55, but Gintoli picked up his first goal of the night at 18:10. Romund forced a turnover on an attempt to clear the zone, knocking the puck behind the play to Gintoli just off the post. Gintoli slotted home the go-ahead goal with just over a minute remaining in the period.

CUW would pull level just before the horn, making it 2-2 with just under 14 seconds remaining in the frame.

Gintoli put the team ahead once again just 1:05 into the third period, hitting a shot across the face of goal from the left face-off circle. Romund and Gauthier helped set up the goal.

The lead lasted until the final five minutes but the Raiders were able to avoid heartbreak in the end.

MSOE outshot Concordia 46-26 in the game and converted on one of its six power-play chances. The visitors were shutout in six man-advantage chances.

Sophomore Rock Boynton made 23 saves on the night for the victory.

The two points were key for the Raiders as they were able to surpass the Falcons into fourth place in the NCHA South Division standings. The Red & White holds a one-point advantage over CUW, 13-12, with three games remaining in the regular season.

These teams meet against Saturday night, with the Falcons hosting at the Ozaukee Ice Center. Puck drops at 7 p.m.
