Sabres Score Early, MSOE Unable To Come Back

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – While the second winter storm of the year raged on outside, inside the Kern Center everyone had "cowbell fever." Unfortunately, MSOE hockey was unable to take advantage of the raucous crowd as they allowed an early goal to (RV) Marian and was never able to catch back up on Friday night.

RESULTS
(RV) Marian – 5
MSOE – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
Once again MSOE (6-5-4, 1-5-4 NCHA) had to play catchup from the word go tonight, as the (RV) Marian scoring started less than a minute into the contest. The Sabres netted the first and only goal of the initial period just 56 seconds from the opening puck drop, forcing the Raiders to play from behind all night. The Red & White never possessed the lead in tonight's contest but came close in the middle 20 minutes. After the second straight Marian goal just two minutes into the second period, Evan Kearns set up Matt Hanewall for this fourth goal in three games to put the Raiders within one. Things looked up for MSOE shortly thereafter, as they were the beneficiaries of a five-minute major power play. Unfortunately, they would give up a shorthanded goal to give Marian the lead before Jeff Makowski was helped out by a pass from Adam Ostrowski to make it 3-2 with MSOE on the 5-on-3 attack. That would be all for the Raider scoring, however. Marian would go on to add another power play goal in the second and an empty netter to close out the third to keep the Raiders winless in 2020.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • With nine games left in the season, the Raiders desperately need a win. Their lone NCHA win was against Lake Forest on Nov. 13th, with their last victory in general taking place on Nov. 26th against St. Mary's (Minn.)
  • MSOE won the faceoff battle 41-32 but had problems setting up in their scoring end all night.
