At Long Last: Hockey Snaps Extended Losing Streak

Box Score

MEQUON, Wis. – The losing streak is finally over. After not having won a contest since last November, the MSOE hockey team took care of business against Concordia Wisconsin tonight, bringing the 4-1 victory over the Falcons back to the Kern Center.

RESULTS
MSOE – 4
Concordia Wisconsin – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
Getting down early and bad defensive lapses has killed MSOE (7-8-4, 2-8-4 NCHA) chances during their prolonged losing skid, but neither of those things happened tonight. The Raiders were the first on the board against Concordia Wisconsin (11-6-2, 7-5-2 NCHA), with David Marabella burying the initial goal with helpers from Evan Kearns and Stian Owens in the second period. The Falcons would tie the game later in the frame, but it was all Red & White in the third. Jack Nickels, Jeff Makowski, and Brendan Ferguson all scored on power play goals, with Makowski's and Ferguson's tallies taking place just 49 seconds apart. Seven different MSOE student-athletes registered assists as the squad brought a total team effort to the rink this evening in their three-goal victory.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The Raiders dominated in the faceoff circle tonight, winning 12 more draws than the Falcons throughout the evening.
  • The penalty kill returned to early season form, stopping all five power play opportunities that came Concordia Wisconsin's way within the 60 minutes of game action.
