Box Score MILWAUKEE – Its always sad to say goodbye to a senior class, but its nice when you can send them off on a high note. The Raiders scored three unanswered goals in the third period to end the 2019-20 season with a 6-3 win over the playoff bound (RV) Aurora Spartans on Saturday evening inside the Kern Center.
RESULTS
(RV) Aurora – 3
MSOE – 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
After getting shutout for the first time all season, MSOE (9-10-6, 4-10-6) was determined not to let that happen again. However, they would have to wait until the second period to find the scoresheet. After an (RV) Aurora (12-7-6, 8-6-6 NCHA) goal in the first period made it 1-0 Spartans, the Raiders answered back with two of their own in the second, both of which came on the power play. First it was Christian Sabin who buried a Jeff Makowski and Kevin Shand set up to tie the game at 1-1. Makowski was on the scoring end of the next one, with helpers going to Stuart Harley and Nick Redmon. AU wouldn't go into the intermission empty handed though, as they scored with less than four minutes remaining to even things up at 2-2. Makowski once again scored on the power play just 42 seconds into the third period to put the Red & White up by a goal, this time with Garrett Gintoli getting the assist. Aurora would once again answer back however, tying it at 3-3 with just over 13 minutes left in the game. Those 13 minutes would be filled with nothing but MSOE goals. Evan Kearns scored off an Adam Ostrowski and David Marabella pass to give the good guys a one goal lead at 14:25. Next up was Sabin setting up Nigel Nelson for the two-goal lead at 16:22. Finally, Kearns would bury the puck in the empty net with just over one and a half minutes left in the game to give the Raiders the insurmountable three goal lead. As the minutes ticked down, the Raider seniors got to spend one last shift on the ice as the Raiders end the season with a three goal win.
