Raiders Hold On For 3-2 Victory

Box Score

APPLETON, Wis. – MSOE men's hockey hit the ice this evening looking to put the mixed bag of results from last weekend behind them when they traveled to Appleton to take on NCHA foe Lawrence. The Raiders did all their heavy lifting early and allowed their defense to take over and preserve a 3-2 win on Friday night.

FINAL SCORE
(RV) MSOE RAIDERS – 3
Lawrence – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • (RV) MSOE (2-1-2, 1-1-1 NCHA) provided all the offense in the first period with two goals within the first ten minutes. Garrett Gintoli set up Kyle Herbster on the powerplay before Matt Hanewall scored off passes from Christian Sabin and Stian Owens to give the Raiders a two-goal advantage after 20.
  • The Red & White lit the lamp again in the second when Adam Czarnecki scored his first goal of the year with the assists going to Sabin and Dylan Hadfield, but the Raiders wouldn't find the back of the next again in the contest with just under a period and a half to play.
  • Lawrence (2-4-0, 0-3-0 NCHA) finally got on the board with a goal in the second and found twine again shortly into the third. However, the MSOE defense stepped up and stopped the comeback as the Raiders walked away with a one goal victory.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • While their luck against the Vikings hasn't been stellar as of late, the Raiders have dominated the series with a record of 41-15-5 and haven't lost in their last four meetings
  • The Red & White were just 1-6 on the power play but also stopped the Vikings three out of four times on the penalty kill.
  • MSOE outshot Lawrence 44-31.
