Raiders On Wrong Side Of Overtime Goal

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Less than 24 hours after the MSOE hockey team defeated Aurora in overtime for their first NACC win of 2021, the two teams were right back at it for the second game of their two-game series. Saturday's contest was destined for overtime as well but in a role reversal it was the Spartans that came away with the sudden death victory.

FINAL SCORE IN OVERTIME
Aurora – 2
MSOE – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
MSOE (5-5-0, 1-4-0 NCHA South) and Aurora (3-1-0, 3-1-0 NCHA South) combined for nine goals last night, but this afternoon's battle would be one of the low scoring variety. Neither team tallied a goal in the first period, and it would not be until 16:22 in the second that the Raiders would get on the board. Kevin Paganini scored his third goal in two games thanks to Matt Hanewall and Jack Nickels on the power play to put the Red & White up by one. However, the Spartans would even things up less than two minutes later with an extra attacker goal over their own to tie up the contest heading into the final frame of regulation. The scoreboard would stay dormant again in the third and the two clubs headed into overtime for the second straight game. Both teams controlled the puck equally in the three-on-three sudden death stanza but a bad bounce off a Raider defender put the puck in the back of the net for Aurora, ending the game 2-1 with just 1:57 elapsed off the clock.
