Raiders Silence Thunder In Overtime Thriller

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – MSOE men's hockey was back on the ice to face off against (RV) Trine less than 24 hours after their tense series opener. The Raiders got the better of the Thunder this time around however as an overtime goal gave the Red & White the win on Saturday afternoon.

FINAL SCORE IN OVERTIME
(RV) Trine – 3
MSOE RAIDERS – 4

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It was a busy first period inside the Kern Center. MSOE (5-8-2, 3-5-1 NCHA) struck first for the second straight game as Brendan Ferguson set up Adam Czarnecki to make it 1-0 Raiders. After two straight (RV) Trine (14-5-0, 8-4-0 NCHA) goals, Garrett Gintoli evened things back up on the power play with the assists going to CJ Kline and Kyle Herbster.
  • Herbster decided to be on the scoring end of things on the next Raiders lamp lighter as a David Marabella pass allowed the Red & White to score the lone goal of the second period.
  • The Thunder would even things back up in the third, sending us into a 3-on-3 overtime session. The game looked like it was destined for a shootout before a Christian Sabin pass allowed Herbster to score the game winner on a one-timer with 55 seconds left for the 4-3 Raiders victory.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • This was the Raiders first overtime winner at home since they beat Bethel back on December 6, 2018.
  • Kyle Herbster's overtime strike was the third game winner of his career. He is also now tied for the team lead in points with 15 (5 goals/10 assists).
