Box Score MILWAUKEE – MSOE men's hockey returned to the Kern Center ice just days after a thrilling overtime victory against (RV) Trine on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, they weren't able to get a second straight win against an opponent that is in the national spotlight as two late goals allowed No. 14 Aurora to sneak past the Raiders on Wednesday night at home.
FINAL SCORE
#14 Aurora – 4
MSOE RAIDERS – 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tonight's contest didn't get off to the most ideal start for MSOE (5-9-2, 3-5-1 NCHA). No. 14 Aurora (11-5-1, 6-4-0 NCHA) scored the game's first two goals with the initial strike coming just one minute after the opening faceoff.
- The Raiders would answer back, however. Ryan Reid brought the Raiders back within one with the last goal of the first frame before Nigel Nelson scored on the power play for the lone goal of the second.
- Tied 2-2 heading into the third, Matt Hanewall buried a CJ Kline pass to put the Red & White up by one with just over 17 minutes left to play. Unfortunately, the Spartans would have the last laugh. Aurora evened things up at 15:49 and scored the game winner on the power play with 1:44 left to swipe a 4-3 victory.
RAIDER REMARKS
- Even with the loss, the Raiders lead the all-time series 11-5, including a win over the Spartans in last year's Harris Cup Playoff quarterfinals.
- Garrett Gintoli went 11-14 in the faceoff circle against his Aurora counterparts.
- Tonight's contest was a non-NCHA battle. The two teams will meet twice at the end of the regular season in games that will most likely have conference playoff implications.
