Big Third Period Propels Red & White To Victory

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – MSOE men's hockey entered tonight's game against bitter rival Concordia Wisconsin looking to move past a heartbreaking loss to #14 Aurora from this past Wednesday. Four goals in the third period to come from behind should boost their confidence as the Raiders downed the Falcons by the score of 5-2 in front of a lively crowd at the Kern Center on Friday evening.

FINAL SCORE
Concordia Wisconsin – 2
MSOE RAIDERS – 5

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Matt Hanewall kicked off tonight's contest with the only first period goal between the two teams, putting MSOE (6-9-2, 3-5-1-1 NCHA) up by one against rival Concordia Wisconsin (2-12-2, 1-7-0-0 NCHA) with assists going to Garrett Gintoli and Kyle Herbster.
  • The Falcons answered back in the second however and kept the Raiders off the scoreboard in the process. Two tallies just over three minutes apart gave CUW a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame.
  • It was all Red & White in the third though. Christian Sabin evened things up with a power play strike from Ryan Reid and Dylan Hadfield before Sabin set up Nigel Nelson for the eventual game winner.
  • Back-to-back Concordia Wisconsin five-minute major penalties allowed MSOE to play almost the entire second half of the final period on the power play and they took advantage of the opportunity to do so. Kyle Herbster (Gintoli, Stian Owens) and Brendan Ferguson (Tanner Dalton) each netted themselves a special teams goal as the Raiders win 5-2.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The Raiders have now beat Concordia Wisconsin six straight times. They have outscored them 27-11 during the current winning streak.
  • With his two assists tonight, Garrett Gintoli is nine points away from 100 in his career.
