Raiders Can't Overcome Second Period Setback

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – MSOE men's hockey kicked off their 2022-23 season at home this evening against UW-Stout looking to start the year off on the right foot. Unfortunately, a big second period from the Blue Devils sank the Raiders hopes in a 6-2 loss on Friday night inside the Kern Center.

FINAL SCORE
UW-Stout – 6
MSOE RAIDERS – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MSOE (0-1) opened up the scoring in their season opener late in the first period. Jacob Bosse connected with Gramm McCormack for the freshmen duo's first goal career and assist of their careers with a minute and a half left to go in the frame.
  • The Raiders quickly went up 2-0 when they scored shortly after the middle stanza began. It was another freshman connection as Cole Beilke tallied his first with the Raiders and Jackson Yee got credit for his first ever assist.
  • Unfortunately, that is where the Red & White scoring would cease. UW-Stout (1-0) took over from there and scored five second periods goals, two of which were on the power play and another shorthanded, to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 5-2 lead.
  • The Red & White weren't able to answer back in the third either. The Blue Devils iced the game with an empty netter at 17:24 to seal the Raiders fate on a four goal loss.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • This was the first meeting between the Raiders and Blue Devils since the 2017-18 season. The Red & White won that matchup 3-1 but are 4-6 in their last ten games overall against UW-Stout.
  • MSOE went 32-67 (47.8 percent) within the faceoff circle and were 0-8 on the power play.
