Raiders Pour It On Against Foresters In Sweep

Box Score

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – After securing their first conference win of the season last night inside the Kern Center, MSOE men's hockey looked to lock down their first NCHA series win when they took on Lake Forest on the road. The Raiders came out on top in a heavyweight slugfest and entered the record books along the way in an 8-5 win over the Foresters on Saturday night.

FINAL SCORE
MSOE RAIDERS – 8
Lake Forest – 5

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Those who like low scoring affairs would have been severely disappointed if they attended or viewed tonight's contest between MSOE (3-1, 2-0 NCHA) and Lake Forest (2-2-1, 0-2 NCHA). The two teams combined for 13 goals, which is tied for fourth most in Raiders history.
  • The game started off innocently enough with the Foresters outscoring the Red & White 2-1 in the first period before MSOE turned on the jets in the second. Goals from Jackson Hughes, Kyle Herbster, Brennan Dickey, Kevin Paganini, and Christian Sabin overcame the three LFC goals in the same frame and gave the Raiders a 6-5 lead after two.
  • The Red & White added some insurance in the third with strikes from Hughes and Sabin, giving each player two in the game and the Raiders an 8-5 win to secure the two game sweep.

RAIDER REMARKS

  • The five goals for the Raiders in the second period are the fifth most they have scored in a single frame. They did the same thing against Marian in the third period of their game on February 2nd of last season.
  • Jackson Hughes had a breakout performance in just his second collegiate game. The freshman had two goals and three assists in tonight's performance alone putting him in a three way tie for the team lead in points on the season with five.
  • The Raiders tallied another two goals tonight on the extra man opportunity and had a total of 12 assists.
